- If you were not a design what would you be? Astronomer!
- Morning routine? My morning routine consists of getting up at 6:30 a.m. I wake up my three daughters then I get myself ready as well as them. We are out of the house by 8:10 at the latest. I drop my two oldest daughters off at school and then I drop my youngest off at daycare. I take morning classes at the Helena College University of Montana. After my class I get a much needed White Chocolate Mocha and head to work. Busy Busy!!
- What is your prefect cup of coffee? In the fall and winter my drink of choice is a hot peppermint white chocolate mocha. In the spring and summer I order an iced white chocolate mocha.
- Whats No. 1 on your bucket list right now? To see the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) in person.
- Quote to live by? Every day may not be good, but there is something good in every day.
- Favorite vacation destination? I haven’t traveled much. Seattle, WA has been my favorite vacation destination so far. I saw my favorite band (MUSE) perform there. I went to numerous museums including the Experience Music Project (EMP) Museum and Seattle Art Museum (SAM) as well as many tourist attractions. Amazing experience.
- Describe your aesthetic in three words? My perception of beauty is originality, emotion, and nature.
- What made you go into the interior design field? The love of creation and art.
- Which celebrity’s house would you love to design? It would be especially exciting
for me to design the house of Lucy Lui. Not only is she an actress she is a director, Unicef ambassador and artist. https://lucyliu.net/gallery/studio. It would be interesting to see what the two of us could come up with together.
- What color scheme are you digging right now? Jewel collection, by Benjamin Moore. It includes Benjamin Moore’s 2017 color of the year, Shadow, as well as Gentleman’s Gray, Dark B It evokes an inviting ambiance. These colors can be used to formalize social areas as well as provide comfort in private areas.
- Share one tip for someone looking to bust out of a style rut? Don’t forget to take time for yourself. If you are in a style rut, it is more than likely because you are thinking or working too hard. Pour a glass of wine, pop in your ear buds and listen to your favorite music. Inspiration will follow after you relax your mind and body.
- Design Rules: One to break? One to always follow? A design rule worth breaking would be stick to one design style and time period. Spaces that blend old and new bring character to a space. A design rule you should always follow if in doubt is stick to the basic principles of design. Balance, emphasis, movement, pattern, repetition, proportion, rhythm, variety and unity.
- Is there a trend you would love to try, but haven’t been able to talk a client into yet? Living Green Walls or Vertical Gardens. These walls can infuse interior spaces with life-renewing energy. They also improve air quality, boost alertness and energy levels. They work as a natural air filtration system and can bring a relaxing and inviting environment to employees or residents of any space. Having live walls also qualifies building for LEED points and reduced energy costs.
- What’s the best design advice you’ve ever been given? Ask anyway. They can say “no”, but, they could also say “yes”. You won’t know the answer if you don’t ask.
- Which designers do you admire most?
- What’s your spirit pattern? Art deco geometric patterns from the 1920’s. These patterns are busy, unique yet balanced and symmetrical.
- What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you? That I am 30 years old.
- Where do you go for inspiration when you’re feeling stumped? When I am having a design slump I take a step outside. I breathe in fresh air and embrace myself with nature and wilderness.
- Which designers should we be following on social media? I follow quite a few Interior Design accounts on Instagram in particular. Design Milk @JamieDerringer and @myinterior have very unique accounts that are dedicated to modern design.
