Get to know Meagan Miller

June 5, 2017

Meagan Miller
  1. If you were not a design what would you be? Astronomer!
  2. Morning routine? My morning routine consists of getting up at 6:30 a.m. I wake up my three daughters then I get myself ready as well as them. We are out of the house by 8:10 at the latest. I drop my two oldest daughters off at school and then I drop my youngest off at daycare. I take morning classes at the Helena College University of Montana. After my class I get a much needed White Chocolate Mocha and head to work. Busy Busy!!
  3. What is your prefect cup of coffee? In the fall and winter my drink of choice is a hot peppermint white chocolate mocha. In the spring and summer I order an iced white chocolate mocha.
  4. Whats No. 1 on your bucket list right now? To see the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) in person.
  5. Quote to live by? Every day may not be good, but there is something good in every day.
  6. Favorite vacation destination? I haven’t traveled much. Seattle, WA has been my favorite vacation destination so far. I saw my favorite band (MUSE) perform there. I went to numerous museums including the Experience Music Project (EMP) Museum and Seattle Art Museum (SAM) as well as many tourist attractions. Amazing experience.
  7. Describe your aesthetic in three words? My perception of beauty is originality, emotion, and nature.
  8. What made you go into the interior design field? The love of creation and art.
  9. Which celebrity’s house would you love to design? It would be especially exciting for me to design the house of Lucy Lui. Not only is she an actress she is a director, Unicef ambassador and artist. https://lucyliu.net/gallery/studio. It would be interesting to see what the two of us could come up with together.
  10. What color scheme are you digging right now? Jewel collection, by Benjamin Moore. It includes Benjamin Moore’s 2017 color of the year, Shadow, as well as Gentleman’s Gray, Dark B It evokes an inviting ambiance. These colors can be used to formalize social areas as well as provide comfort in private areas.
  11. Share one tip for someone looking to bust out of a style rut? Don’t forget to take time for yourself. If you are in a style rut, it is more than likely because you are thinking or working too hard. Pour a glass of wine, pop in your ear buds and listen to your favorite music. Inspiration will follow after you relax your mind and body.
  12. Design Rules: One to break? One to always follow? A design rule worth breaking would be stick to one design style and time period. Spaces that blend old and new bring character to a space. A design rule you should always follow if in doubt is stick to the basic principles of design. Balance, emphasis, movement, pattern, repetition, proportion, rhythm, variety and unity.
  13. Is there a trend you would love to try, but haven’t been able to talk a client into yet? Living Green Walls or Vertical Gardens. These walls can infuse interior spaces with life-renewing energy. They also improve air quality, boost alertness and energy levels. They work as a natural air filtration system and can bring a relaxing and inviting environment to employees or residents of any space. Having live walls also qualifies building for LEED points and reduced energy costs.
  14. What’s the best design advice you’ve ever been given? Ask anyway. They can say “no”, but, they could also say “yes”. You won’t know the answer if you don’t ask.
  15. Which designers do you admire most?
  16. What’s your spirit pattern? Art deco geometric patterns from the 1920’s. These patterns are busy, unique yet balanced and symmetrical.
  17. What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you? That I am 30 years old.
  18. Where do you go for inspiration when you’re feeling stumped? When I am having a design slump I take a step outside. I breathe in fresh air and embrace myself with nature and wilderness.
  19. Which designers should we be following on social media? I follow quite a few Interior Design accounts on Instagram in particular. Design Milk @JamieDerringer and @myinterior have very unique accounts that are dedicated to modern design.
