Curb appeal is the attractiveness of a home when viewed from the street. Good curb appeal is essential for resale and it makes an excellent first impression for guests.
If you have the opportunity to select your own exterior finishes, try to keep a few things in mind:
- If you are ever going to sell your house, don’t personalize too much. You can “make it yours” with less permanent features like décor and paint. Featured in my video is a customized wreath and door mat to add a personal touch.
- We used a craftsman style front door because its clean lines and basic shapes are very clean and simple. Board and Batten siding is one of my personal favorites because it gives real dimension, and again, it is very simple to accomplish. The colors we used are Benjamin Moore Vermont Slate and Chantilly Lace.
- Add some interest by extending your sidewalk approach with stamped or exposed aggregate concrete. This will make your entryway feel bigger and more inviting. We also installed a simple galvanized metal front door light. This light floods the front door and highlights the dimension differences.
