Here at CWG Architecture + Interiors we believe the interior of a building speaks just as loudly as the exterior. That is why we, in interiors, describe ourselves as a natural extension of the Architecture Department. Not to say the Interior Department cannot hold their own – in fact, some of our favorite projects lately have been Interior-focused commercial tenant improvements. Just look at The Union Restaurant and Brothers Tapworks. Talk about an immersive experience!

A common misconception about interiors is that we just pick finishes. But did you know, as interior designers, we also possess educational backgrounds and years of experience not only in materials, finishes, & lighting, but also in interior architecture, planning, furniture, life safety, technical construction documentation, and consultant coordination? In fact, higher education for interior design has evolved. Now, some schools offer a 4-year Bachelor of Interior Architecture and Design. This degree qualifies designers to work on architectural components as well as interiors – opening doors to certification in either field. As a firm that has an Interior Architecture graduate, we can attest to the strengths this well-rounded training brings to a project.
Now that you know a little bit more about our “upbringing” in the industry, let’s dive into what this refresh is all about! Interior Architecture: Everything starts here — think about how the interior works with the building’s structure and design intent before anything else, because you can’t separate the two.
Programming: Before anything gets designed, we sit down and listen — to the goals, the needs, the way a space needs to function — so everything we do actually makes sense.
Space Planning: This is where we figure out how someone moves through a room, where they’ll naturally gravitate, and what ‘just works.’
Material & Finish Selections: Finding materials that are as functional as they are beautiful — ones that hold up, make sense for the space, and still bring a visual wow factor.
Renderings: Where a client’s vision becomes tangible. Here, decisions get easier, the vision gets sharper, and we’re all more excited than we were before.
Construction Documents: The unglamorous backbone of a great project, where every detail gets documented clearly so nothing gets lost in translation before construction begins.
Construction Administration: From groundbreaking to final walkthrough, we stay engaged to protect the integrity of the design and ensure every detail is executed as planned.
Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment (FF&E): Furniture and fixtures have the power to make or break a space, which is why this is one of the most exciting parts of the process. Every carefully chosen piece works together to make a space feel truly whole.
